Entry #10 - Summer Skincare

Summer Skincare

Summer is here and while breaking out in summer isn’t exactly novel, it’s still annoying!  Here are some tips avoid such seasonal skin disasters.  Heat and humidity is a great breeding ground for bacteria, hence why summer seems to make acne at an all-time high.

Double-cleansing is vital: Because of the heat, humidity, sun and makeup & sunscreen clogging your pores, you need to be extra diligent with cleansing your skin.  Double cleansing at night with a gentle cleanser and a Clarisonic will get all your skin squeaky clean.
Use a hydrating or clay cleanser in summer: I personally use a creamy cleanser that deep cleans my skin and has a bit more moisture which we all need living here in the desert.  Then I use a clarifying mask 2 times a week with rose or charcoal to gently exfoliate my skin and help clear up any breakouts.

Not all toners are created equal: Using a toner in the summer is great for fighting oil and breakouts.  Choose a toner that has AHA properties that will help fight breakouts.  Did you know you can use a toner throughout the day to hydrate your skin?  It the perfect pick me up on those hot summer days just spritz right over your makeup!
Summer makeup:  Summer is a time when makeup should be lighter so I recommend using a tinted moisturizer or a tinted SPF.  They provide nice coverage that isn't heavy, while also protecting your skin from the harmful sun rays.  Always remember to use SPF every day as individuals with acne are very susceptible to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.  Which creates brown pigment around the breakouts and then that turns into a whole different issue to fix.

  1. Erin, I always stumble across your blog because you write about what I am so interested in! Now during the summer, do you moisturize more often, and what moisturizer do you use, if you do use one! I've been looking for a new moisturizer that doesnt leave my skin super oily like the one I have now.

  2. I love your blog! Well I love all things beauty its super interesting. I gained so much information from this post, I used to hate using SPF on my face because it always made me break out. I recently came across an SPF from the line Drunk Elephant and OMG !! The best SPF I have ever tried.

  4. One moisturizer that I use is Mizon snail repair cream! I’m really into Korean skincare and make up and I can say the cream works wonders. It moisturizes very well but it isn’t too thick and it doesn’t feel sticky on your skin it absorbs nicely. perfect for summer.

  6. Pretty good new entries, Erin. You have some good points and ideas, but you are also quite brief at times, which makes it harder for your audience to relate and connect. Keep developing your content.
